Letter re: family news, and mention of exaggeration in news of Power Jets problems (April 1946)

My dearest Mother,

I hope your watch is going well. I did not hear what was wrong with it.

Christopher, who is captain of fencing at Westminster, has been leading his team in the Public Schools Fencing competition. He & the other Westminsters did quite well, but not well enough to win. I went to watch on Saturday afternoon.

In the evening Hildred came to the RAC to have dinner with us. She seemed very well and was very pleased about the way you had improved.

We decided at the last moment that we had better go away for Easter and managed to get in at Fircroft Guest House, North Lancing, Sussex (Lancing 334211). We go on Thurs. & leave on Tues.

We must somehow get down to see you soon with the boys, if only for the day. I will write again about this.

I expect your Sunday papers are making a lot of our present difficulties at Power Jets. The reports are inaccurate, and I have the situation well in hand.

Did you see the fuss about Oliver Simmonds’ profits?

With love, your own son
